Our Story

Founded in 2021 by Rhys McAlpine, RedPine Skating School is the first Indigenous-owned and operated skating school in Saskatchewan. Built on the values of community, resilience, and opportunity, RedPine was created to make skating more accessible for Indigenous youth and families across Treaty 4 Territory.

Operating out of Ochapowace First Nation, RedPine Skating School proudly provides skating instruction and development opportunities to surrounding nations including Kahkewistahaw First Nation, Cowessess First Nation, and Zagime Anishinabek.

At RedPine, skating is more than just learning skills on the ice — it is about building confidence, discipline, cultural pride, and lifelong healthy habits. Every program is designed to create a welcoming environment where youth can grow both as athletes and as individuals.

Mission Statement

RedPine Skating School is dedicated to providing holistic skating instruction that supports the physical, mental, emotional, and cultural well-being of Indigenous youth. Through accessible programming, mentorship, and community connection, we strive to break barriers in sport, create opportunities for growth, and empower the next generation to move forward with confidence both on and off the ice.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every Indigenous child has equal access to sport, recreation, and mentorship opportunities within their own communities. RedPine Skating School aims to inspire youth through positive leadership, skill development, and culturally grounded programming that strengthens both individual potential and community pride.

Community Impact

RedPine Skating School continues to work with local families and communities to create meaningful experiences on the ice while fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all participants. By combining athletic development with mentorship and cultural understanding, RedPine is helping open doors for Indigenous youth across Saskatchewan.
